2 Times Coins Miraculously Appeared in Fish

I know, I know. When you usually think of fish and money it’s a mental image of Charlie Tuna cruising in a golden submerged Lamborghini eating small spoons of human eggs.

Because if he ate caviar it would be cannibalism and his species is most definitely out for revenge.

Well scrub that image from your mind. We are talking about straight up miracles here – the first is pretty well known. According to the Holman Christian Standard Bible:

Matthew 17:
24) When they came to Capernaum, those who collected the double-drachma tax approached Peter and said, "Doesn't your Teacher pay the double-drachma tax?"

25) "Yes," he said. When he went into the house, Jesus spoke to him first, "What do you think, Simon? Who do earthly kings collect tariffs or taxes from? From their sons or from strangers?"

26) "From strangers," he said. "Then the sons are free," Jesus told him.

27) "But, so we won't offend them, go to the sea, cast in a fishhook, and catch the first fish that comes up. When you open its mouth you'll find a coin. Take it and give it to them for Me and you."

Money was needed and Christ foresaw it in a very strange form of bank. Not only did he know the coin would be in the fish, but he knew when and where to find the fish. That’s a lot of line-up right there.

It lined up like that at least one other time too. It wasn’t foreseen the same way – but it did happen according to a LDS pioneer named Mary Lightner. The scene is a desperate one. They’d already been chased out of several cities by torch-carrying mobs intent on murder and destruction. As Mrs. Lightner describes the situation:

“While we were camped on the banks of the Missouri River waiting to be ferried over, they found there was not money enough to take all over. One or two families must be left behind, and the fear was that if left, they would be killed. So, some of the brethren by the name of Higbee thought they would try and catch some fish, perhaps the ferryman would take them, they put out their lines in the evening; it rained all night and most of the next day, when they took in their lines they found two or three small fish, and a catfish that weighed 14 pounds. On opening it, what was their astonishment to find three bright silver half dollars, just the amount needed to pay for taking their team over the river. This was considered a miracle, and caused great rejoicing among us. “ (http://www.vihrearouva.net/m/bio/lightner_marye.shtml)

Money in a fish. When they needed it, where they needed it. That’s a lot of line-up right there.
